if all goes to plan, i'll soon have a 'spare' machine to play with be. i've *wanted* it ever since i first saw the reviews of it - despite certain computer magazines which have said "nice os - shame about the aps".

If BeOs becomes the Amiga of the 90's will that mean that it will go into obscurity and die as Amiga did? Don't get me wrong, Be is a good system, but Linux with it's open source backgroud, has many more apps and games designed for it. I would prefer to see any of the "Alternative" OS's go mainstream on the desktop, but M$ has that market fairly well locked down. I use WIN 98 and WINNT as well as more than a couple of flavors of Linux. Win is easier to use but my soul feels better to see the Linux boot sequence rather than the splash screen Win gives you. (the preceeding is all IMHO o course)

With the new trend for sealed-unit "Easy PCs" which have no accessible drives etc., I see BeOS becoming the OS of choice for multimedia home-entertainment boxes...

As for the Linux boot sequence vs M$ flash screen (well, I don't see that due to my ST screen replacements but... ) I can assure you it's an HO shared.
