Cybes
That's him over there there!
So, who is this too-heavy person, with his bad haircut and unfashionable glasses? Well, it's Cybes, of course!
To be wholly accurate, his name is Evan Couche, and his nickname is Cyberius. Everyone calls him Cybes, for short. Except, of course, those people who know him better on IRC, who call him Vargus (or Varg), or those who don't like him, who call him something else entirely.
Cybes does indeed have his own (non-H2G2) website, but was convinced, by a dear friend (who obviously thought more of him than he did himself) to erect this one as well.
About Smileys
Among the first things I noticed when I came here was that there were a number of smileys (or 'emoticons' as they're sometimes called) built right into the markup script here. With just a few keystrokes, you can have any of ,
,
,
, or
. (No, I don't know why you'd want the fish either).
I, for one, think the brass should be right pleased with themselves. But, whilst these are truly useful, there are a few more emoticons that see regular usage in 'net texts. How can you make the all-too-common :-/ , for example?
So, I got busy with my trusty graphics package and whipped up a few extras: (available at http://www.chariot.net.au/~cyberius/h2g2/)
cf_angry.gif
cf_sad.gif
cf_smile.gif
cf_wink.gif
cf_ogle.gif
cf_drool.gif
cf_buttn.gif
cf_shock.gif
cf_yawn.gif
cf_yuck.gif
cf_mixed.gif
cf_strat.gif
cf_dead.gif
(These files are also available as .PNG pics, since .GIF is of questionable legal status)
I redid the wink, because I find it hard to tell the difference between the normal wink and a smiley at a glance.
You can't use these in fora and such (read the smiley & fisheye information), but you can use them on your homepage. If anyone wants any of them, either take a look at Peregrin's excellent smiley page, or let me know and I'll give you copies of the graphics.
By the way, if anyone wants a specific one drawn up, tell me about it and I'll give it a shot.
