Consider also the method of smoking meat in order to preserve it. Yes, it could be argued that somebody accidentally left their food cooking on the log fire too long, threw it away and found several days later it was still edible. However, who would leave it that long before trying to eat it again, or not find some better method of disposing of said burnt meat in the first place? Could it not be argued that a time-skip took place, whereby the person who had a whoopsie with the meat was skipped forward in time to a time where he could discover it was still edible all those weeks later?
I am remarkably ill informed about this subject so feel free to correct me.
