DOWN WITH DODGY CHARACTERS

Gosh what a lot of stuff from my suggestion but to the Altairian dollars I am sold, now for the symbol, obviously the $ is out, and it will have to be one in the H2G2 font (a form of Ariel I think) so how about § (alt-0127) or ‡ (alt 0135). Can you all see these in the different browsers world-wide. I fnot the A$ will have to do.
BTW in case you didn't know and I know some people don't you get them by pressing alt key whilst typing in the number shown ON THE NUMERIC KEYPAD.
also BTW the € sign should be produced on Windows 98 at least by ctrl-alt-4
Are we all cool with the start time, or do the students without home PC prefer a Friday Evening (UK time) start????
Also BTW, who said I was a Mr????? Not that I am saying I'm not but I have tried V hard to keep my sex, sexuality, and shoe size out of H2G2 but hey who cares.
See you all
Chris

Opps that should be alt-0167 for the §, which is my favorite. Sorry
BTW it's ctrl-alt-4 for the €.
Cheers

Sorry Chris - didn't mean to offend by the use of Mr. - just making unjustified assumptions - won't do it again.
I seem to be getting loads of squares in all these messages - what's wrong with E?

No offence taken, 50/50 chance after all, and I'm not saying you were wrong, it's just it's my opinion that as it is almost certain that I will never meet any other researcher F2F (I do not already know), then things like gender do not mean much. Take me as I am or not at all sort of thing.
I guess the sqaures mean you browser or PC cannot handle the characters I have been using. In that case I think we should declare that a) the prizes are in Altairian dollars and the symbol for this is A$.
Next question does anyone know the exchange rate?
Chris
PS Thanks for the plug on your home page, I have just shamelessly stole (but credited) your text for my page.

For me, the symbols show up on some school computers but not others. I think A$ is the way to go.

Boo hoo! I won't be free this Saturday to play. I shall look with interest at what has happened when I return.
Good luck to the first contestant!

Some basic guidelines for the game
C Hawke Posted Nov 12, 1999
Don't Panic, I for one cannot stick around long, if all goes to plan the questions can be asked by anyone, and I'm sure the first contestant will not wish to stay on-line all day. So here's my suggestions.
After the initial contestant has been selected I'll ask the first question, and say if the contestant is right. After that anyone can ask, but hang around long enough to say if the answer is right. remember questions should get harder and NOT be too serious.
Contestants should let the forum know when they have to go off-line, as I know some of us do have lives outside H2G2 (Shock, horror but yes some do)
After each round as part of the prize the contestant can to set the question to select the next player.
Hopefully this way we can all have fun without anyone one of us hanging on all day/week.
Of course, there's nothing stopping any of you running other games from the same Guide entry, especially those in different time zones.
See some of you at 9:00 GMT tomorow.

Alterian dollars I can handle - and I think that perhaps coincidentally the exchange rate is 1UKP =1A$ - blimey - that's a coincidence.
See you 9am tomorrow - hopefully -that's ever so early for a weekend.

'tis early but I am one of those people with a life outside H2G2! Honest, no realy, I even have a visitor planed round by flat, and they are of the opposite gender, therefore the flat is due for it's annual "visitor of opposite gender" visitor clean up!!!
See Ya bright and early

The luxury of time to tidy up for v.o.o.g. - I'm envious.
Maybe if I plan to stay up all night and guarantee a seat at the front at 9am. Maybe not
