Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

We studied this one... I actually formed the Association of Victims of Greek Tragedies after that class, in Hebrew the full name was a pretty nice acronym of Antigone.

Oh the tragedy of it all. The only classics I know I’m afraid is some myths and everyday life stuff, Greek education and so on. I can do some Egyptian but I’m starting to forget it all…….. But my & Jack are trying to organise a trip out to Egypt at Easter.

I'd like to go to thebes, neatly linking all of the above smiley - winkeye as there is a painting on one wall, circa the time of Ramises III, which looks dodgily like the description of the ark of the covenant and I want to see it. plus I like classical culture.

So do I, but there's a limit. I mean, Homer's works are definitely masterpieces, but when you read them there comes a time when you start thinking "okay, I get it, you love metaphores and analogies, but could you please just GET TO THE POINT?!".

Homer seems the worst. It seems like he cannot get from point A to point B without at least three analogies in the middle. "And the people of troy scattered, like sheep do when the sun is down on the trees, and the shepherds come and drive them and their dogs are running around on the grass..." stuff like that. Drove me nuts when I was reading it. Virgil got a bit better later in Aeneas, but still had some very long very dull parts.
