I wouldn't be surprised...I haven't managed to write anything but total crap for the guide so far.

I feel a great sense of relief when I put out a decent article. About two weeks ago I did four serious articles in a day or two...hard work, I tell you. I think I've only done one serious article in two weeks, now. Guess I've used up all my writing material, I ain't got nothing to write about any more!
I want to write a page about heavy metal...I know there's already an article about it but I reckon I can get my ideas added to it. Hopefully...

Question: Where is this young researchers page? I'm making up a list of birthdays at the moment (http://www.h2g2.com/A293195 btw) and I wanted to nick the birthdays you've collected.
This entry, Cream.
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Apr 19, 2000
The young researchers page doesn't have their birthdays on them. I've got them on my computer, or they've told me their birthday in various far-flung fora. I could give you the birthdays of three who I know in real life, but it may be a bit cheeky if I just dish out the rest.
On the other hand, what harm's it gonna do? Well, as I find the birthdays I'll mull it over.
Noticed you got me on that page already . Thanks . Remember the glory days, mate?

Penguin Girl - returned at last Posted Apr 28, 2000
Thanx for putting me up there as well. Seems like a fairly comprehensive list so far, though I have no notion of the actual number of researchers here.
This entry, Cream.
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Apr 28, 2000
Something very close to the 40,000 mark. Seems like only last week they were celebrating 30K researchers. Who'll be 40K?
I keep forgetting, there's two people I need to add to that list. One doesn't seem to want to tell me his birthday though. Odd.
This entry, Cream.
Penguin Girl - returned at last Posted Apr 28, 2000
Yes, quite.
I can't believe we have so many researchers...I always run into the same people in forums, and I'm sure there's not 40,000. Must be an awful lot of people lurking. I think 5 of them are my friends from school, coincidentally.

Mike A (snowblind) Posted Apr 28, 2000
Tomorrow, there'll be four of my rl friends on h2g2. Yikes!
When you think, there's 40,000 people here, but what's the most you've ever seen online at once? Mine's 76.
And how many people are on my Massive List Of Reasearchers? I'd havew a guess at 200, or thereabouts.
Apparently, there may be a plan for h2g2 to send a 'reminder' email to people who've been inactive for more than 30 weeks. I hope they do that. H2G2 gets awful slow when more than 50 people are online at once, but it's ok when I'm online in the late hours
This entry, Cream.
Penguin Girl - returned at last Posted Apr 28, 2000
Yeah, there's about 60 people online now, and it's sloooooww. I have a cable connection, so I've got about 6 browser windows open, both netscape and internet explorer.
I've told me friends about it, and they signed up, but none of them ever participate in anything. It IS kind of nice to not know anyone here though. None of them know who I REALLY am...hehehahahah!!!! Wait...I don't really know who I am either...or maybe I do...Well anyway, I don't have to explain my self...

Some people who don't know me very well might say that my online persona is very different to my real life one. They are wrong.
I make a few enemies here, as in real life
I get in fights, as in real life
I get in trouble with the people in charge, as in real life
I let people know what I'm thinking, as in real life
things are running om my end. I wish it was a bit faster though
This entry, Cream.
Penguin Girl - returned at last Posted Apr 28, 2000
It's sped up a great deal for me. I have no idea why.
My online persona is actually nicer than my real life persona - that is, my school persona. In general, the way I act online is like that way I act outside of school, exept maybe less digusted with the rest of humanity. At least, MOST of the time. That's the only reason I think AOL should exist. People have to figure out how to get out of the box to interact with the rest of us. And if they're happy where they are, that's great. So you tend to meet nicer people online.
I don't get in too many fights...although I have been harassed for making vaguely feminist comments a couple of times.

In real life I find it *a lot* harder to make friends 'coz I'm a nerd. BTW, any curious but lazy people who can't be arsed to look for it on Mike's page can find the Young Researcher's Page at http://www.h2g2.com/A275889.

Me too, Billian. Being a nerd I mean. I attended the Geek Pride Day Festival.
*grins*
Making friends in real life IS harder...but it's a different thing. I talk to a lot of people online, but so far I don't have anyone that I could cry my eyes out to if I was having a bad day or who could help me with a really hard decision. It's a lot harder(for me at least) to make that kind of friends online. I have a lot of real life friends that I mostly talk to online though...but having actually met someone changes things. I'm a lot less anti-social/scary online than off, which also probably helps matters. Wearing army boots doesn'tscare people away...hehehe
*thinks: "wow, that was random"*

If I ever think I'mgetting nerdy, I can think of some other occaisons where my nerdiness pales. No, I do not think I am a nerd.
Though sometimes, I just wanna tell people irl to just f**k off. When I'm online, I only end up doing that if somepne is deliberatly being a complete asshole to my face.
I guess, because I'm not such a nerd, I realise just what jerks real life people can be sometimes. I come here and the only jerks are those trying to diss me. I have a page done especially fo those people.
Thanks 4 the link, Billian
Have you seen a chap called Ed Hunter joining the pokemon league?
I saw the Pokemon movie today...f**king awesome!!!

-------Being a Nerd is a State of Mind-----------
or, getting reasonable grades and generally being anti-social in school. It may just be though of differently in the states. Who knows. In the rest of real life I'm not nerdy at all...I just couldn't bring myself (or afford) to wear all abercrombie and fitch, which is essentially the requirement for not being a nerd in my town(pithy, pithy social system).

"Rape of the mind is a social dosorder
The Cynics the apathy oneupmanship order..."
Now, why didn't I buy Virus on single? Grr
In our corner of the world you're a nerd if you spend too much time on your computer doing sad things. So I guess I could end up being one if something got an idea of what I do, but not actually understanding what it's about. I am not a nerd.
Though we never say 'nerd'. Usually 'sad t**t' or something.
This entry, Cream.
Penguin Girl - returned at last Posted May 3, 2000
It's different I guess. Here nerd is really just a self definition, and not necessarily a bad one. My entire town has AOL, for better or for worse, so computers aren't geeky. And my friends and I talk more online than off. Mainly because the other girl and I tend to be really bitchy on the phone.

Mike A (snowblind) Posted May 4, 2000
It's down to envirment, and how you see it, I guess. But then, that applies to everything, doesn't it?
Billian, is it ok to hang 'rpund with computers up your end of town? Don't get offended, i'm wondering if us in the SW might be a bit more intolerant of other peoples habits...actually, that's applicable to the whole of the UK, I think *^_^*
Who saw the Mayday riot in London in the papers then?
This entry, Cream.
Psybro Posted May 4, 2000
Yeah, it's OK to USE computers and the 'Net; just not for stuff like Pokémon;-(. And I personally fell that the vandalism of the Cenotaph was digusting.

I'm American, our news coverage is horrible, so I didn't hear about it. No one really know what everyone else does online here, except for the guys who can't get any...that part's obvious, and they all admit it. It's kind of funny, because my town has a lot of jocks, but even they're online a lot.
