Q: Is it possible for a movie to be TOO intelligent?
A: YES!

Being an Advanced Placement English (AKA Genius Class) student with a skull-shattering GPA, I know "too intelligent" when I see it.
No, I did NOT come here to brag.
The Wachowskis weren't really TRYING to be oversmart. They were simply faced with the dilemma of trying to pack every ounce of wisdom and philosophy they could into two hours. Plus, although they spent outrageous amounts of money doing it, the Brothers don't own a mint or diamond mine; thus, a few plot holes rose from nothing more complex than budget problems.
What I Have Learned From APE About Stuff That Doesn't Make Sense In Literature- it is usually symbolic of something really deep and meaningful. (During one class, I had to interpret a surrealist poem about inflatable bras and cricket matches. Greater madness I have not known.) So Neo's aerial fight with Agent Smith, which rates a .5 on my patented Makes-Sense-A-Meter, must embody some ultradeep concept that only the Wachowskis understand or have indeed heard of.
Gobs of philosophy, killer battle scenes, and criss-crossing plot lines, all tossed into Dan Akyroyd's infamous Bass-O-Matic and choppily mixed into a glarpy, chunky, undigestible goofest.
As the One would say, "Whoa."

"Plot Hole Prat" PVP

P.S.: My sister and I have a secret theory. We suspect the Brothers had a much better ending in mind, but this was uncovered by Meddling Snooper Trash and published on the Internet. Feeling the movie was spoiled, the Wachowskis wrote an alternate ending at the last second, which included eye-popping special effects but lost much of the original's quality.
We aren't sure who to be more bitter at, the Meddling Snooper Trash or the Brothers for their fruitless attempt at saving face.

Read the comics on the Matrix website. They top the movies by a mile (or kilometer if you prefer).
