Is anyone in here interested in playing an h2g2 Fantasy F1 game?

I know we've got the (un)official Formula1 challenge A2348949, but it seems like that didn't get further than last year's Silverstone - correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, the thing is, I've got this FantasyF1 thing that I kind of knocked up on an Excel spreadsheet a couple of years back. I play it against myself. I guess I could put it on h2g2... if anyone's interested.

So ... more than 5 replies to this post by Friday night and I'll sort it out.

(I'll post a rough idea of the rules if anyones interested too)

We could do, if there's enough interest. I'll try and get the (un)official fantasy F1 game up and running again next season though (although I don't know how good my net access will be next year, have to try to pursuade my housemates to get broadband smiley - smiley)

Me neither! I think it's a lot of work calculating all the points, so only say you'll do it if you really want to!

So, there's a bit of interest... but not much? smiley - sadface I'll put a page up anyway, but I won't fall over myself to do it before Monaco, cos I think it might be too much like hard work if I rush it. smiley - erm

This is how it would work - actually, no - let me explain first...

I always wanted a fantasy f1 game that was simple, and as close to real-life as possible. The BBC did one back in about '93 which was almost it. I didn't want mucking about with engines and tyres and chassis and having 5 drivers, that's not f1. What I wanted was this:

ONE CAR. TWO DRIVERS. Points for QUALIFYING. Points for RACING. Points for FINISHING. Because that's what f1 is all about.

Anyway, I searched. smiley - huh There wasn't a proper fantasy f1 game out there anywhere. smiley - wah So I made one up. smiley - biggrin I built a huge spreadsheet to work it all out for me. smiley - smiley I mucked about with it on my own for 3 years. smiley - erm I really wanted someone else to play with. smiley - sadface Then I came to h2g2 and found this place. smiley - biggrin And I thought you might all like to play too. smiley - hug

So. How does it work you're wondering (or you've fallen asleep smiley - zzz).

Here's where it's like real f1:

- Your team consists of a car and two drivers (just like real life).
- Your car and two drivers score points on a race weekend (just like real life).
- The points are scored as: 10pts=1st, 8pts=2nd, 6pts=3rd, 5pts=4th, ... down to 1pt=8th (again, just like in real life).

Now here's where it starts getting a bit different:

- The SIMPLE bit - Your two drivers score points for finishing (10pts=win, 8pts=2nd, etc).
- The INTERESTING bit - Your two drivers also score points for qualifying (10pts=pole, 8pts=2nd, etc).
- The CLEVER bit - They ALSO score points for overtaking - actually for improving on their qually position during the race - and again get scored by rank (10pts=most overtaking, 8pts=next best, etc).
- The other INTERESTING bit - Your car also scores points for all the same things (except the score is based on the _best_ driver in that car, not the two drivers added together).

There's one other thing. You're thinking that we'll all go out and pick Alonso and Schu and either a Ferrari or Renault. Well you can't:

- The other CLEVER bit - You have a budget for your team. It's a points budget, and your two drivers and car cost the amount of points they scored in the 2004 season. So, Schu costs 148pts, Alonso costs 59pts, a BAR costs 119pts, etc. And your budget is 150pts. So you can buy Schuey (148pts), but he'd have to drive a Minardi (1pt) and be partnered by Narain Karthikeyan (0pts).

smiley - zzz So, if you made it this far, all _you_ have to do is pick a car and two drivers that cost 150pts max. I'll put a list up somewhere. All _I_ have to do is enter the qually and race results into my smashing spreadsheet, and out pop the scores. Then I put the scores up on h2g2 and we see who wins... And they get a badge or something... smiley - ok

Still fancy a go? Think it's stupid? Other comments?

Cheers,
Paff

Yep. It may well be too much like hard work. I'll have a go and see what happens.

I'd better get on with it then.smiley - run
