To continue this vein of useless information, I've just been having a look back at my historic newusers data (collected for another project last year), and I've managed to pull out that at this point I've been here for 2.447909 years. smiley - geek

Now all I need to do is shove it in a database and make it easily searchable! smiley - magic

It's not that old, although I did realise recently that h2g2 has now been with the BBC longer than it was with TDV, which has to say something.

I do remember that I used to think of Whoami? and JimiX as being the prolific volunteers, but I can't remember either ever having *six* badges, Jodan. I'm very impressed; I never thought I'd even get to 4, I was always too scared to try to be a sub.

I have to say it has made no difference - having done 30 newbies last night smiley - headhurts. I have yet to to check those already posted to. I hoped they may have disappeared by this morning smiley - winkeye

I'd forgotten quite how much work it is to do this throughly. It's just a pity that I seem to be getting to them so late. I think a lot of people will just leave if not welcomed promptly. It's even more of a shame since I'm trying to look up links for each of them smiley - sadface

And then there is this stupid Liam business. A lot of jumped up, officious idiots going around at the moment.

"I'd forgotten quite how much work it is to do this throughly"

Exactly!! Not to mention all the follow up help requests!! Now you know why I am getting fed up of it, and moaning about sharing of duties all the time smiley - winkeye It's not just because I am a grumpy beggar smiley - tongueout The list builds up so fast these days, it only takes one day missed and the list becomes 2 pages long smiley - yikes

I had the world and his wife drop by my space last night asking for help smiley - laugh Wasn't even people I had aced! I don't mind - I love helping people, but it made me laugh as I was desperately trying to get an entry finished and determined to submit it to PR last night! Ended up falling asleep on the sofa!

Assuming the list of aces in the drop-down on Aces is correct, there are 98 aces. This means that exactly half of them have bothered to actually welcome new users since October when I started this page.

That's really quite bad.

I anticipate a small change to my program...

I am not sure if the lists are fixed yet - there are only 88 on the aceforum.

I did put out a request for all people not invited to the aceforum to let me know and there were a few. that was a couple of months back. Since there hasn't been any more recruiting apart from a couple, then the aceforum should have the correct number smiley - erm

But yep, about half seems to right.

The list is out of date a bit, as the top four are all aces, who are new, and have done some welcoming (good for them!).

I wonder how many aces know about this page? The most new users always seems to gather in the 'unaced' category which means they've had postings to their personal space (often from themselves). It's common to think that this is some kind of message board where everyone can see your postings to your personal space.

I am sure I have posted about it to the aceforum, as it saves looking through the ** list (which no-one does now anyway)

Maybe you should post about it again and advice folks to check it.

Afterall, you have done the hardwork so why not brag about it smiley - winkeye

Natalie knows about it as I mentioned it to her amidst some feedback on Aceings!

I've just checked all 98 aces, and I've found the following 8 aren't aces any more. smiley - sadface

U94986 is not really an ace
U129266 is not really an ace
U167550 is not really an ace
U178874 is not really an ace
U195006 is not really an ace
U198984 is not really an ace
U210384 is not really an ace
U214967 is not really an ace

I'll pull them from the database in a minute.

I'll email this off to the ace forum so Natalie can poke the list tomorrow.

Looks like 46 aces who haven't done any aceing smiley - sadface There may be a few more, as that is based on names from the drop-down that are still aces, so someone may have been added since the list was updated (I only picked up the four who had done some work).

Any ideas what I should do with their names? Pop round to this PSes, and give them reminders, and send a list of Elvis impersonators to Natalie?

I've sent an email to the forum with a list of people who've been idle for months, hopefully it'll jog their memories and get them back to h2g2, always good to have old faces back.

I know that a few of the others on my list, do a lot of things other than direct greetings that can be considered aceing, so I think I'll be very careful, with who I name.
