Next hint, same song :
It's no use saying that it's allright, it's allright
Now don't pretend that you sleep at night, sleep tight...""

O.k. o.k. o.k. it's called 'Just a job to do' from the album 'Genesis' (you know, the yellow cover, mid-eighties)

Actually, I stopped buying Genesis albums after "The Wind and Wuthering" Oh no, I have "And Then There Were Three" too.

alicat,
Have you heard "Seconds Out", which was the next live album after Wind and Wuthering? I'm a real fan of live music - shock horror surprise - and it's one of my all time faves. The version of Dance On A Volcano is magnificent.

So what about Dance On A Volcano then? That's got to be one of my fave Genesis live tracks, along with The Cage on Three Sides Live.

Sorry Bassman,
Genesis is the only band that I know of that I cannot give a 'best-songs' list of. They are all of at least such a high level that I wouldn't know where to start. With the exception of 'The Battle of Epping Forest' which I think is dreadful for some reason...
It also depends on my mood : right now I would vote for 'Squonk', tomorrow probably for another song...

I understand where you're coming from.
I keep trying to get our band to do some Genesis but only the keyboard player likes them. Bit of an uphill struggle. I would consider Turn It On Again, Land Of Confusion and Jesus He Knows Me. At the end of the day, you've got to play what the punters want to hear.

Wow, this forum's been busy lately! Ages since I contributed though.
So I'll just mention (possibly totally out of current subject context) that there's a fantastic review of 'Ovo' in the paper (a local rag). I can't wait to hear it.
And promises of a soon-to-be-released-and-long-awaited solo album. Yippee!

I have OVO and it is indeed a worthy PG-album.
I used to play in a band for about 6 months that consisted of people who were between 25 and 32 years old. I was 19 at the time. We played things by Greenslade, Brand X but mainly original songs. I didn't quite make it then because they were all music highschool-graduates and I 'only' had lessons since I was 7 !
Anyway, after I left the band I would occasionally come to visit them when they were rehearsing. On one of those evenings I came to visit, I came in and the bandleader said : 'I've just heard that new album of that favourite band of yours....A bit simple, isn't it ?'
He gave the signal and the whole lot of them(it was a trio by the way) played the GENESIS-album from start to finish ! It had only been released about 6 days before... We're talking songs like 'DODO' and 'Me and Sarah Jane'...not the simplest of them all...
Oh yeah...they didn't have a proper singer so I was asked to sing...and of course I knew the lyrics by heart...after all, they had been available for 6 days . What a night !
'Dodo ugly, so Dodo must die'...
The only other 'Genesis-like' thing I've done is to play an absolutely perfect jamsession based on 'In the Air tonight'...it lasted for about 15 minutes, we had about 9 musicians on stage, and it went so well that the audience gave us a standing ovation...
Not bad, we were age 23 to 42, the audience was in between 14 and 25 years old...they weren't even there when the song was a hit...

Quite so, it was quite magical(as well as musical..)
Of course there have been the occasional rehearsals during which we played In The Cage and Please don't ask, oh those were the days my friend ! Fortunately I have spotted a trend recently : "Genesis is no longer taboo in clubs..."
About friggin 'time if you ask me...
