The idea of a granfalloon comes from Bokononism, a religion within Cat's Cradle. You can read some excerpts from the Book of Bokonon at http://web.math-cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/personal/bokonon.htm. It's definitely a religion worth some study. I recommend the concept of a duprass to anyone who's ever been deeply in love.
