Great story - just what the guide needs.
Couple of questions:
How many casualties were there?
Was there popular support for the coup? It would help to put the thing into context if we knew how British occupation was seen at the time.
It would also help if you said when the British took control of the region, and when they eventually relinquished it.

H.H.S. Glasgow --> HHS Glasgow
Footnote one should go before the full stop, and "Not give the story away, but they don't." needs a 'to'.
"loyalist" --> 'loyalist'
for peace, through the U.S.
-->
for peace through the US
The Sultans Fleet... the yacht, was soon sunk
-->
The Sultan's Fleet (his yacht) was soon sunk
"As a final proof of the their control of the country of Zanzibar, the British demanded payment from the Zanzibar government to cover the cost of the shells fired on the country." Brilliant

A great story and one that I actually already knew I first heard it when I visited Stone Town in 1996.
The palace is actually called the Beit el-Ajaib or House of Wonders. It was built for Barghash in 1883 and recieved its name due to it being the largest building in Stone Town and the first building to recieve electric lighting in Zanzibar.
When I visited the island you could not enter the building but after a little back hander to the security guard watching over the place I recieved a personnalised tour!
On a side note your entry reads very similar to the wikipedia entry on the subject...I suggest you try to re-work some of yours else you'll be accussed of plagarism.

And what's wrong with this approach today eh ?
The sultan at the end has a cornation instead of a coronation.
Wait till the Iraqi's get the bill for American munitions expended ! That'll teach 'em.

Sorry bout the late reply, but a combination of christmas and hangovers had kept me away.
All points duly noted

It's still a little too close to the Wiki entry, in particular 4 or 5 sentences are almost identical. I strongly recommend you change these, as it's the only thing which would prevent me recommending this enjoyable entry.

Hi Lash,
This is a really cool entry! I too have been to Zanzibar, and was vaguely aware there was a really short war, but didn't know the details.
One point: "less anti-slavery". This doesn't seem to make sense, particularly since the footnote says he abolished slavery as soon as he came to power. Do you mean "more anti-slavery"?

He was still pro slavey just not as staunch a supporter. He abolished it because of a sense of gratitude towards the British.
I think I'm pretty much finished with it now, I reckon its as different as possible as the wiki one.

Haven't read the entry yet, so you may have mentioned it, but apparently the British charged the Zanzibarians (what's the correct term?) for the shells we used in the war!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
