MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

Thanks Gnomon.

As a regular Domino player it is difficult to write in a style that invites a novice to play and explains the game clearly, concisely and simply.

I will have a look at it at the weekend (or sooner if I get the opportunity) and amend as suggested.

Thank you.

I can't expand upon it, other than to say that good domino players can play with their dominos upside down, then when you turn them over, they are all correctly placed.

Anyone I know who can do this refuses to tell how. I assume it's just good memory, but I don't think the players let each other know what they've laid. I will interrogate my father some more, but not sure he'll give any more info up.

My dad has finally told me how to play dominoes upside down. Frankly it involves cheating and I'm very disappointed to hear it. smiley - cross

Gnomon - time to move on

I can think of a way you could play dominoes upside-down, but since I've just made it up, it is not worth including in the entry.

You'd have to show the domino as you played it, then turn it upside-down and add it to the played dominoes. This would mean that the other players would have to remember the available numbers at the end of the line, but would have to be extremely skilled to remember all the dominoes played and make deductions from them.

This is one of the options in the game of Mah Jong, to make it harder.

That's very similar in that you have to have a very good memory for what has been played where, but rather than show the dominoes you tap the other person's foot under the table so they know what you've just played. Oops, he told me not to publish that. smiley - whistle

I feel sure you could describe the play if you put your mind to it, Fiddler. At the moment, your only description of the actual play is the following two lines:

"the object of the other players is to match the ends showing, and play dominoes that match either end to clear their hand"

and

"if a domino has a matching end to the double, it is played at the corresponding end"

These do not explain what the player actually does.

Don't abandon this, just put a description of how to play into it.
