Unfortunately, rechargeables aren't reaaly an option as my stupid Konica uses up 2 duracell AA's just by taking and transferring 6 pictures. I have got rechargeable AA's but they are dead with just 2 photos. What I really need is a new camera but I can't afford one.

Non existent! The photos are stored in the camera memory and tranferred via a port like you get on mobile phones. The lead that came with the camera connects that to the USB port on the front of my computer and transfers through there.

Oh dear
I was hopeing you could use a card reader to save battery power in the download.
Bit of a problem this, will it take power from mains or the pc whilst downloading, this the stage where mine gets depleater.

Traveller in Time on his head
"Noticed the power drain with my camera as well, as long as the camera detects it is connected it keeps powered up. Despite it could use power from the USB lead it uses the batteries .
Power solution: disconnect the USB connector when not active loading images from the camera. "

I thought I had a power suppply for it to be honest, but I cant find it. I've always preferred my 35mm SLR for photography but I got this one when I started selling on Ebay. Its mainly suited for indoor close work as there's no zoom and the daylight settings are a bit hit and miss. I should really look at getting a better one but can't afford it and until now have not had a need to put photos online apart from Ebay and the occasional extra photo set on Esnips.
I'm hoping that joining the photographers will give me the incentive to save for an upgrade but at the moment I'm really limited to photos of small stuff shot in my makeshift studio (a cardboard box painted white inside and a spotlamp) or playing hunt the film processors with the SLR. Other than that its raiding the archives and adjusting the colour balance to get rid of the sun damage. I tried using the digital camera this morning for some pheasant photos but all I got was sunlight glare - and it wasn't even that bright.
BTW do you know of any good software/hardware for scanning negatives onto a computer? I have a load of negs (B&W I think) I inherited from my late father (he collected cameras) but I've no idea whats on them. I've tried Paint Shop pro 7 which gives an image but not good enough to use. Any ideas?

I'm running a Visioneer 4800 scanner but the original software that came with it wont run on XP since I had a new hard disk last year. I think when I bought the computer they had Windows XP installed over Windows 98 so it would run DOS based programs as well. However, since my hard drive was replaced all I have been given is the XP discs and a lot of the older programs no longer run, including the Visioneer software. This is why I am running Photosuite with it. I quite like it for most things but it doesn't allow for negatives(it has an invert setting but it just looks wrong). Paint shop pro 7 does it but not very well. I just tried Irfanview which is slightly better but I'm wondering if the problem is the negs themselves - their quite old and I don't know if they've stood the rigors of time. I'll have a look at the Epson though.

It works with negs from the 40,s 50.s 60,s amd prints and slides from 1968, unless there is something wrong with yours (have you tryed taking a print from one to check it out) it will be fine...
