A Conversation for The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Movies

Celluloid

Post 1

Tonsil Revenge (PG)

is a very obsolete material for making film. It is highly combustible, tends to turn to dust in old age and is very susceptible to temperature variations and finger oils. The emulsion on it is known to scrape off in film projector gates. It was replaced just before (If I remember correctly) WW2 by something called "safety film"
which is a kind of acetate or plastic stock as opposed to the celluloid stock which was made from wood byproducts.
No television programmes were ever kinescoped onto celluloid.
