Restoring dried (water damage), suade leather?
2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Started conversation Oct 17, 2014
I've been a looking online, and indeed, found several products; all of which so far seem to say 'don't use on suade'
My leather trilby, which is new (and a gift), got absolutely drenched, a while back, and the suade leather is... somewhat devoid of 'oil', and feeling so* dry
I bought a bottle of stuff, designed for hats (and for suade), but, despite having used the entire bottle, over a few applications, that really hasn't put any 'oil' back into it.
My temptation is to get out my Nicwax oil (used for ears on boots/shoes), but I'm not sure how well that'd work on suade..... canny seem to find much information online for suade, as opposed to just 'leather'

Is it possible to get products made of imitation suede with waterproof properties?

Yeh, but they're imitation, useually not very good, and always really really cheap... and I've got this one, and its not totally dammaged, just dried out somewhat (I've rescued ordinary leather, not suade, from more dried out/worse conditition than this, but don't think the same oil stuff will necessarily work on suade...)

Try a saddler if you can find one a lot of top line all weather horsey gear has suede saddles especially, you can browse the riding whip section whilst you are waiting

actually.... coincidentially, I am currently having a conversation on twitter... about the need for a visit to a proper aquestrian shop... for purchsing a decent riding crop the ... err.... 'toy' ones are... useless
Sadly don't know of such a shop near me.... but, actually thinking of it, Newmarket is just down the road, and I'm guessing they probably have a few horse/aquestrian tac shops

They seem to sell a wide assortment of stuff online. Maybe they deliver by stagecoach.

Still must try find soemthing for repairing this suade on the hat though... getting tempted to risk using the boot nicwax liquid on it...

There's a particular kind of nikwax you can get for suade. I haven't used it and I don't know what the difference is, but it might be worth a shot. It's probably only a couple of quid for a bottle, and it might be better than risking wrecking the hat...

Oh. my. BoB. right. sorted. must try find some elk or moose horns, to buy... to do a custom job on my suede leahter hat (black BTW) OH... this so* has to be done.... given... my... recently quired.... err..... 'connections' to Sweden Mind.... I've still not managed to re-create the viking braid I recieved on my hair in Sweden... I just can't do it myself to my own hair
oo... nikwax designed for Suede? err.... I'm guessing I'll probably have more luck finding that online than anywhere shall try look later I really would like to get the hat fully restored, not had it long, and its basically the most expensive/decent trilby I've had (OK, I had a second hand, proper leather one years ago, but that got lost, and then only faux-leather ones, as it was hard to hunt down real leather ones....) Plus, anyhow, it was a gift wonder how I could attach the raindeer or moose or elk antlers/horns to it
