Hm, 'scuse me for bargeing in like this, but maybe it's a good idea to rewrite this page s little in such a way that the address of Seti really works as a link (easier for those who wish to follow it, especially NEWcomers to the Seti-thing).
And exactly WHERE is the information on the seti-site on how to join a group? It's quite useless to let EVERYONE figure that out for themselves, since the amount of info linked from there is really enormous!

Hi Festi!
Just in case someone stumbles in here and has the same question you asked, I thought it would be a good idea to put the answer here.
To join the h2g2 Researchers SETI group:
1. Go to the SETI@home site and download the correct version of SETI for your computer. It is available in Windows, Mac, and a text-only version for various flavors of UNIX/LINUX
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu
2. Install the software and follow the instructions for 'creating a new acount'. Start processing 'packets' of data.
3. Go to the h2g2 Researchers group page
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?cmd=team_lookup&name=h2g2+Researchers
click on the 'Join' link at the top of the page.
That's it! You are now an official member of the SETI h2g2 Researcher Group. You can go back to the group page at SETI and watch as new members join, and work completed adds up.
If you already belong to a group, you can change to the h2g2 Researchers. As long as you keep the same email address your account credit follows you if you move.
You can also follow the link from the SETI@home home page to Groups, and search for the 'h2g2 Researchers' to find the group page.

Hehe, right! Or just simply send them to http://www.h2g2.com/A193006 where they can read what it's all about, and them simply follow one or two clicks to get it done

I must be thick tonight - I don't see how your Playing God article or its links will, necessarily, be of use to people interested in SETI@home.
Of course, your entry at http://www.h2g2.com/A193231 on SETI@home has some links, several times over , that may be of interest.

Hullo? Bruce?
You still around?
I have a question that isn't exactly about putting links into pages and isnt exactly about guide html. If you dont know the answer, maybe you can refer me to the correct PTB to help.
On my home page I added an entry in my journal which includes the link to the SETI page for h2g2 Researchers. Unfortunately this link is very long. My journal column width has now expanded to the width of this link. The result is that even on my Mac at 1024x768 I have to enlarge the window to the whole screen to see my page without horizontal scrolling. [I shudder to think what it looks like at 640x480 in windoze.] Is there any way I can fix this, or do I just have to wait until I have written enough new journal entries to push it off the bottom of the page, so that my home can resume more normal proportions??????
Help!
Thanks for whatever suggestions you can offer.

Hiya
The problems caused by the fact that the site wraps the lines in a journal as a way of resizing the page to suit a users screen size. Unfortunately it doesn't wrap the line in the middle of a word, it needs a space to define the end of a word. Being basically a fast idiot the 'puter considers a long URL to be just another word. The end result is a wide page.
The only fix currently is to enter more journal entries to push the offending item off your front page.
I've heard rumours of editable journals coming in the future but I don't know if they are true or when they are due.
hope it helps

Hi bluD,
I expect you're working with IE 4.5 for the Mac? If so, the trouble you see with that entry is only noticed by other Mac-users with the same browser. I saw something like that mentioned somewhere in an h2g2 FAQ somewhere before you wrote this question, and at the time I didn't see the need for making a note about it
On my PC with IE 5.0 the problem doesn't occur. If the entry could be edited at all, it could probably only be done by one of the PTWVH.
Maybe a warning statement about putting very long "outside-h2g2-links" in journals should be added to the "journal entries" section of the help-system.

The Mac IE 4.5 problem is with long names/link text in the 'Referenced" margin. Details are here http://www.h2g2.com/A187292
This combined with the long link in the journal is what is causing bluDragons problems - but if the long hournal link rolls off the page the problem will go away & the page return to normal.
The problem on bludragons page happens in IE5 on Windows at a screen resolution of 800x600 but disappears at 1024x768.
I'm currently drafting an addition for the FAQ regarding 'Eeeek my page is suddenly way to wide!' - long URLs (inside or outside H2G2 ) will be one of the causes listed, amongst others.

Maybe I should read what I've typed before I hit the 'Post Message' button - I meant the margin of the entry about the MAC IE4.5 bug here http://www.h2g2.com/A187292

Yups, as I found out when I actually followed that link, which I did only after your mentioning the right margin. (I *AM* thick!)
You assumed that I checked the page before thanking you for the correct info, but I just trusted you blindly.
Now I remember seeing that page following links from your intro-page. Lots of usefull info there. I'm going to try and learn more about XML, great subject to dive into.
