...deserves mention in a list of female tennis greats, as does margaret court smith even earlier. althea gibson way back in the olden days of yore. kournikova is a pin-up girl, not a tennis player. the williams girls are tennis players.
but, yeah, billie jean is a worthy icon, IMHO.

Aye, good points- I mentioned Kournikova merely due to her retirement, not due to her actually being any good or anything 
I must admit I know little of Court or Gibson- my knowledge of tennis pre-late 1980s is largely drawn from repats when it rains at wimbledon, or the record books. The reasons I consider Navratilova, King and Graf to be out in front is the sheer number of titles the trio have amassed. I was actually reading an interesting article about Althea Gibson in a paper last week.I'm cvertain they all are fantastic players, but I needed a quick list of three to flesh the column out
