Phantasy Cricket?
Skankyrich [?] Started conversation Mar 6, 2007
With the cricket season starting in just a few weeks time, I thought I'd ask if anyone would be interesting in taking part in something along the same lines for the summer? I'm quite happy to run it, but I wanted to check that there was interest before I started making pages and lists...

Fantastic!
I might go with my original idea, which was to have fixtures between teams rather than awarding performance points. It would be more work, but it would make it more like a simulation than a league - it would be intriguing to see how it works. Once I've finished work on this issue of , I'm going to try it myself using results from recent Test and ODI series and see if it's realistic. If it doesn't work fairly accurately, I'll go to award performance points just like in PP.

I think the problem with team-on-team fixtures is that not all counties play every weekend in the championship. I'd be happier with a cumulative count of performance points.

That's a good point, B. I thought they all played a four day and a one day game each in a week (not counting the odd tour match here and there), but they don't. There might be potential for a knockout cup along those lines, though, looking at the FP and Twenty20 fixture lists. Depends how many people are interested
At the moment, Andy, I'm planning to use the County Championship and Pro40 matches only. I haven't worked out the details yet, though - I want to gauge interest before making player lists and the like. I'm thinking of including points that players score while they're on international duty, because they'll be unavailable for their counties in that time. What do you guys think?

Sounds good to me. You might want to put a premium price (or a number-in-your-team limit) on international cricketers, though.

Well, every player would have to be signed to a County anyway, so there would be a limited number available. There will be a limit on the number of overseas players in each team, but if you can afford the whole England team, you could buy the lot. Whether they'll perform as well against the Indians and West Indies than, say, Ramprakash against a County attack is debatable anyway.
As in PP, there'll be minimum bids anyway, or it could get silly

Bearing in mind i know less than a lot about county cricket, i'd be willing to have a crack.

Surely we should call this Phantasy Krikkit in honour of the site, especially if you're gonna call it Phantasy anything.

I did just make a post suggesting 'Phantasy ProPhorty', but it seems to have vanished into the ether.
