I've been mulling this idea over for weeks now and I don't seem to be able to get much further with it. So, I've decided we're going to do this via the AViators.
The h2g2 OddCast will contain audio snippets from the Community, segments from the Edited Guide and other aspects of Life, the Universe and Everything.
We're now looking for original audio content to fill the first episode. It doesn't have to be quite as formal as the Edited Guide, so it can include discussions about subjects that the Edited Guide has been looking at, personal experiences of what to write, conversations between Researchers if two or more of you are together) or suggestions for new Researchers.
At the moment, I'm sticking to MP3 format as it's the only thing I know how to work with. We might not be able to use entire submissions - we might be constrained by time.
- Submissions have to be within the current Editorial Guidelines, so no swearing, defamatory comments, advertising or overly politically-biased comments.
- Don't worry about stumbles or misspeaks - so long as there's one example of you getting it right, we can edit around any mistakes like that.
Submissions can be sent to us at the h2g2.editorial address (AT bbc.co.uk).
And feel free to discuss ideas first in this forum - that's what it's for.
We don't have AViator badges or a group set up just yet, but when we do, those people who contribute to the OddCasts will become members.
I *think* that's it for now...

I'll happily help with the editing, Especially if it'll make your life easier and get more stuff in there.

If you want, I could submit a recording about the experience of being new and a newbie's tips and pointers for other new folks. XD As I'm familiar with editing equipment, I can also edit my own recording for you.

That'd be great,
The bad news is, someone's already copyrighted the name 'oddcast' {booo!!] so I'm on the lookout for an alternative. Current frontrunner is 'Hoocast'...

I'm quite glad, I'm not sure I liked that name.
Made it sound like the whole thing was going to be read by 2legs.

I've got a name now. Not going to unveil it yet, but I'm pretty sure it's copyright safe.
No, it isn't Derek.

I'll ahve some 'origional' music availible by the end of weekend as I've finally mangaged to understand the rainforrests worth of manuals for my multitrack software... will be just music mind... luckly I can't sing to save a badger if its any good you can use it : pressumign of course the normal BBC/H2G2 copyright doobry will cover it, I.E., I retain copyright I could always have a go reocrding a conversation on SKYPE between me and Roymondo once I've picked up the undilivered package contining the new doobry from the postoffice actually... that would be a bad idea.... it would break every houserule just about

Original music is slightly different because of musicians unions. need to get clarification on that. (Annoyingly, I believe it's not the same for anything I create, as I'm staff).
It might be that we have to ask you to sign a waiver to say you grant us permission to use the music, but that you retain copyright.
What we could really do with are some recordings of content. Interesting summaries of great Edited Entries or collections of fascinating facts or something. There was talk of providing short guides to contributors - how to create a nice Personal Space or a basic spoken guide to how to structure an entry. Something helpful and inclusive to newcomers...

Oo! Any chance of getting some UnderGuide material in there? Researchers reading their own work, that sort of thing?

Websites live by their 'stickiness'. If we have podcasts they should big up the EG, feature contributions from the UG but, more importantly, feature random stuff that will make newbies want to stick around.
