So - what would an AViator DO?

Will they work along the same lines as Community Artists and when an EG Entry has been selected as Editos Choice be asked to put together a piece for the Entry?

Or will they work more like Curators and wander through te Edited Guide adding sound/visual bites to EG Entries?

I'd imagine more the second option; Wehn a guide entry is coming up through the editing process, it might not offer sufficient time for one of us to find a suitable sound sample; whereas goign through the guide we could identify sutiable entrys, and have others flag up suitable entrys also, and add them on the basis of those we can get samples for, and keeping in mind those we're looking for add these then as and when we get suitable samples? smiley - erm It might be possible to do a bit of the first; adding them as the entry is going towards edited stasis, where one of us has suitable samples smiley - ermsmiley - 2cents

When an entry is going through PR would be the first place to start surely? At least for simpler sound/video projects.

Wouldn't the researcher need to be consulted?

I think we'd have to think of it as something that should only really be worked on once an entry has been accepted into the Edited Guide, just because not every submission to PR makes it that far. But it should definitely be something for the older entries too.

The older entries will give everyone a chance to practise how to do it.. smiley - erm

Not him

Yup.

where are we going to get clips from? there could be some rather thorny legal issues here. For example, If I have a CD, and want to cut some music to put it on, would that be ok? I assume it would be, but...

I think more along the curators lines

or a kinda 50 / 50,

some frontpage entries get AV - like they get blobs,

other entries in the archive get some.

I'm sure most authors would be happy to have their Entries 'delayed' in ComingUp if it meant getting an AV 'blob'. I know I would! smiley - biggrin

This is a superb idea. For starters pretty much every entry about composers & musicians would benefit from an example of their sound/music.

Shoulnd't be any problem with copyright; you own the copyright to your copy of a CD you have purchased; under certain limitations, (and despite what large companys and M*****t in particualr are trying to make people believe); its I think so long as its less than about 30 seconds long can be used without need to pay loyalities to record producer/group/artist smiley - ufo well thats how I always understood it to work but I guess Jimster will find the e definitive answer to that smiley - musicalnote Oh, and Roymondo; got the speakers working with the soundcard; in the end I realised I could use the quarter inch jack sockets on the back of the speakers to input direct from teh soudncard; the Interconnect type connectors on the back could be used instead if prefered; I thin ktehy're mainly inteneded for plugging in a secondary, external device like an MP3 etc smiley - musicalnote sound V cool smiley - musicalnote

I've found one entry that could really do with a short sound file - A8819832

Utterly smiley - cool idea. I've been looking through the entries I've subbed or written - it doesn't have to be music, does it? The Royal Navy could get some good cannon booming. Toast needs the 'ding' of a toaster, kilts could use a chunk of highland fling. Can't think of anything for mendalilan enheritance, though. smiley - laugh

I would pay good money to have the Spitting Image John Major's 'these peas are rather good, Norma' for my Little Chef entry smiley - bigeyes

'Vegetables' springs to mind. smiley - biggrin

But in terms of actual quotes - I'm sure you could get short recorded quotes from BBC documentaries if you ask the italics really nicely, but there's probably a better way than that, as it would keep 'em too busy really.

Still not sure about spoken words. Will have to see.

The annoying thing is... certain *other* sites based in the USA have the benefit of 'fair use' laws that don't exist in the UK.
