Er ... hate to be pedantic, but, although it was originally written in German, the setting for 'The Trial' is Prague, rather than Germany (insamuch as it's 'set' anywhere) - there's a whole level of the novel which really comes alive when you realise that Kafka was writing obliquely about the bureaucratic rule of a foreign imperial power (Austria) over his own city.
Last time I was in Prague, they were selling T-shirts on the street with a picture of the man himself and the caption: 'Just remember - Kafka had a rotten time too'

No worries! If you liked 'The Trial', you should have a go at the short stories: even better in some ways and certainly a lot weirder in places!
