you know, i've never known how best to respond to a kafka story. i have read all of his books - and still i don't know if i'm expected to laugh or cry at the sheer pessimism of the stories! (i know there are some who said that kafka meant them as a bit of a joke, but this is the same guy who used to fantasize about all the different -and ghastly!- ways that he'd die. let us not forget about the 'dragged-trough-the-apartment' one) kind of like joseph heller's catch-22, only one knows that the latter is *meant* to be funny.
