1) It was the Search For Spock - okay, me commenting about typos is a bit rich !

2) From the Star Trek Novel - Kobayashi Maru ...

The computer made the effects of damage much greater on the Federation starship - note, different simulations used different star ships. If the first set of Klingons were destroyed, more came.

Other solutions by ST crew ... :

Chekov - Rammed the Klingons and destroyed them cause he didn't want his crew to suffer as prisioners of the Klingons
Sulu - didn't go into the Neutral zone and his crew tryed to munity
Scott - Torpedos bays and phasers damaged, so blew up ships by transporting anitmater into a ship, and by transporting photon torpedos to specfic joins in the Klingon's group shield (this theoricly would lead to them blowing up and so they did in the simulator, but Scott having himself proving experimentally it won't work , when he was 16, was in effect cheating and got his wish of goign to engering school instead of command. As a note, his simulation ended when the ship was blown up by 15 klingon vessels that suddenly appeared !
