Yoda, probably forsaw that he would defeat the Imperials, but die shortly after. I'm sure he also forsaw that he would get an aprentice of sufficient midichlorian count to do the job, /and/ continue the Jedi Order, which would have been preferal to Yoda, who wanted there to be new jedi to defend the New Republic as the old ones defended the Old Republic
