Ah wandering round Greenwich was a nice thing to do of a saturday or sunday afternoon when I was in London.
Did you see the Dolphin Sundial behind teh Maritime Museum, just by the park? It's one of the most beautiful sundials I've ever seen - http://pmsa.cch.kcl.ac.uk/images/nrpUEL/UELGR005c.jpg
It is not the shadow that is where you read the time, it's the gap between the shadows of the tips of the tails that tells the time.

That is an awesome sundial, Phil. And I think we saw it, but am not completely sure. I remember seeing a sundial, but the specifics escape me.
I didn't know you used to live in London.

There are a number of sundials in and around Greenwich park, at the Observatory and the Maritime Museum (as well as a whole host of others that I know around central London).
I lived and worked there for nearly five years. By the end all I wanted to do was get out of the city and move elsewhere. I moved back up to near Manchester where my folks (and others ) are.
