I love the description of the boggarts! smiley - ok

For some unfathomable reason, the clammy hands on the face trick reminds me of the "you've been tangoed" ads. smiley - weird

I presume that when they put their hands on your face they say "You played it for her, now play it for me."

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Nice smiley - magic I think that its normal for guide entrys not to have a 'header' immediately after the title, as the title kinda serves as the first header; would it be possible to have a small one or two sentence paragraph right at the top before the 'where' 'heading' giving a brief description along the lines of 'Boggart Hole Clough is a.......' type thing? smiley - erm just an idea smiley - run

Nice little Entry! smiley - smiley

(There's an EG Entry on the Bogeyman abouts that relates to boggarts in a round about way too that you might like to link to smiley - winkeye)

Have removed the first header (it looks better now smiley - cheers and I corrected a typo, I'd missed!)

If I had the faintest idea about how to do a link smiley - blush I would love to link to your entry Matt (although, your boggarts seem a bit less malevolant (sp?0 than mine smiley - winkeye)

Hi Magwitch,

Interesting Entry smiley - ok

I found three things to sort out:

mischeivious = mischievous

'Many parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire are said be haunted by boggarts, mischeivious spirits who enter your home and cause general mischief, pulling your ears, removing your bed sheets and even putting his clammy hands on your face while you sleep! (boggarts are invariably male)'

Although you say boggarts are male, the grammar isn't right here, you need to say 'putting their clammy hands'...
Or, if you want to keep the bit about them being male, you might want to put something like this:

'Many parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire are said be haunted by boggarts. A boggart is a mischievous spirit who enters your home and cause general mischief, pulling your ears, removing your bed sheets and even putting his clammy hands on your face while you sleep! (boggarts are invariably male)'

It has it’s own permanent orienteering course = It has its own....

Otherwise, I think this is looking good smiley - smiley

Mags -

No problem, it's just a thought and a bit cheeky of me really, but if you want to link you can do it like this:

Many parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire are said be haunted by boggarts, mischeivious spirits who enter your home and cause general mischief, pulling your ears, removing your bed sheets and even putting his clammy hands on your face while you sleep!

They have Boggarts in Harry Potter too, you know. In that, they live in small enclosed spaces -- such as wardrobes, the spaces under beds, trunks, etc -- and emerge to confront you with whatever you fear most. (Eg, spiders in Ron's case and dementors for Harry.)

Certainly an interesting entry. Good luck. smiley - smiley

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Boggart Hole Clough - that brings back some memories smiley - biggrin I had a friend who lived in Heap Bridge about 25 years ago and we drove past 'Boggert'all Cluff' several times. I think there might have been a good pub nearby smiley - winkeyesmiley - cheers

I can see some problems in the entry that need to be addressed.

A better idea of exactly where BHC is would be helpful. This could be done in several ways, but primarily I'd suggest changing
"Situated in Blackley, Boggart Hole Clough is one of many city parks in Manchester"
to
'Situated in Blackley, north Manchester, Boggart Hole Clough is one of many parks in the city'

Entries about places that readers might want to visit often include a 'How to get there' section.

"to prevent it being built on for domestic housing"
'to prevent domestic housing being built on the land'

"The park boasts 190 acres of green land; it has various picturesque hills and ravines or “cloughs” in local dialect"
'The park boasts 190 acres of green land and it has several picturesque hills, as well as ravines known as 'cloughs' in local dialect'

"It was refurbished in recent times as a result of The Commonwealth Games being staged in the city in 2002"
'The park was refurbished as a result of The Commonwealth Games being staged in Manchester in 2002'
(Saying 'recent times' will render the entry out of date after a while).

"The farmer was so dismayed by this, realising that the boggart was going with them that he had no choice"
'The farmer was so dismayed by this, realising that the boggart was going with them, that he had no choice'

There are a number of websites you could link to in the entry - this one for instance http://www.manchester.gov.uk/leisure/parks/north/boggart.htm

Let me amend one of those suggestions: you don't need to say 'domestic housing' - just 'housing' will do.

Can't seem to get external links to work, mind you. That could be me being a bit dense, of course smiley - laugh

External links:

boggart

OR

You can stick it in a references tag, out of the main text, between the last BODY and GUIDE tags:

The boggart at Manchester

Note, you can call it what you want, it doesn't have to be "The boggart at Manchester"

Well done on your first attempt, magwitchsmiley - ok

'Cloughs' should be in single quotes, not double, as in my post above. Double quotes are only used in edited entries for actual quotations.
