A Conversation for The Dark Eldar

Going back to the actual question I did my bit for the Black Crusade (by playing for the loyalists, obviously) and played a few games as Tau.
Mainly because my Death Guard army wasn't up to scratch and the middle of a campaign wasn't the best place to start learning what improvements it needed...

Remind me who's side the Death Guard are on again?

They're one of the Cult Chaos Legions - the Nurgle guys. Very tasty T5, minimum 3+ save, Fearless, etc. Pretty nice daemonic support too, and the vehicles are quite easy to convert.

Basic plague marine is either 19 or 20 points, I forget. Characterful squad size is seven, so you're looking at 140 points, plus kit for your (free) unit champion, plus two special weapons (tend to go for either two melta or plasma guns) - total for a squad is about 180-200 points.
It's not the biggest army but I've seen 14 plague marines, 9 plaguebearers and a Greater Daemon virtually wipe out a Guard army of 70 models plus two tanks in six turns. (Not using current Chaos codex or assault rules, but even so...)

Ooof - basically loads of standard infantry, possibly some veterans, an anti-tank squad, a Griffon mortar and a Thunderer siege tank. This game happened two and a half years ago so it's a bit hazy in my mind.
As I said, we were playing the old assault rules and old daemon rules so every time my Unclean One won a combat (ie most of the time, vs Guardsmen) they auto-broke and he was able to sweep into the next rank. By about turn four he'd torn straight through the Guard lines and was ripping tanks to pieces. Even basic Plague Marines were almost unstoppable when assaulting Guardsmen: strike first, hit on 3s, wound on 3s, 5+ save. Any Guard striking back hit on 5s (cos of blight grenades), wound on 6s, 3+ save.
It was a beautiful slaughter but it wouldn't happen these days - partly cos they've fixed the assault rules so shooty armies stand a chance, partly cos I'm trying to play the Death Guard characterfully (ie minimal transport vehicles). I do struggle horribly against most Eldar armies though...

No, mainly cos they're so shooty - Dark Reapers and Starcannon blow away Plague Marines with the greatest of ease, and that's before we even get onto Wraithlords and Avatar.
Having said that, I've done okay against Ghost Warrior armies - I have enough anti-Wraithlord tricks to deal with an army that relies on them *too* heavily...

I went against Chaos three times and thrashed them each time! But I have to say they were lacking in experience. I also played Atari and we drew on a cleanse mission.
BTW I collect a Space Marine army.

Plague Banner - d6 unsaveable wounds against any enemy unit within 6" (one use item). 66% chance of a dead Wraithlord even if it's unhurt.
Plaguebearers charging: 21 attacks, hitting on 4s, wounding on 4s, normal save applies (so you have to be lucky, or soften it up first).
And I usually have enough lascannons, meltaguns and powerfists to take care of at least one more. No-one but the most heinous beard takes more than three Wraithlords, even in an Iyanden Eldar army...

Yes , I like plasma guns. And I love inflicting "plasma death" on my opponents.Evil.
BTW Thanks Atari, we are very evenly matched
Evidence: All these draws we've been having!
Key: Complain about this post
