Mersey Beat.
Mersey Beat was a name coined by Bill Harry for the newspaper he founded in Liverpool in 1961. The paper gave Cilla Black her name, led Brian Epstein to discover the Beatles and promoted all the Merseyside groups. It published columns by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, record reviews by Brian Epstein and unique photographs of the Beatles in their early career.
On publication on 6 July 1961 the name was established and any reference to Mersey Beat referred to the paper. The media called music ‘The Mersey Sound’ or ‘The Liverpool Sound’, the music was never called Mersey Beat at the time it flourished. To refer to the sound as Mersey Beat is an anachronism.
The newspaper has been re-launched online at www.mersey-beat.com

Good choice of subject, but can you add a bit (a lot?) more? At the moment it reads too much like a biased plug for the website.
Where does the band The Merseybeats figure?

I've seen the Merseybeats a couple of times live.
Agrees with jimster that the entry needs more. Is it about the newspaper, or the style of music. At the time, most of the groups were 'beat' groups, so when did Swinging Blue Jeans / Gerry / Beatles they get classed as Merseybeat?

actually, given that the paper came out in 1961, it isn't a supprise that it doesn't reffer to the music style.
While beat groups like Rory Storm and the Hurricanes were popular around the time. Acts like The Merseybeats, Gerry & Pacemakers and Th Swinging Blue Jeans all had national success in 1963, thereby bringing national attention on the merseyside area

Shame. If it could be expanded into a proper entry about the Mersey Sound and all the bands involved, it could be a cracker.

There's not much to it, but I'm fine nominating it for the Flea Market.
