To Hobbit or not to Hobbit? (possible spoiler alerts)
MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Started conversation Dec 14, 2012
So will you or won't you? Have you or haven't you?
If so, was it worth it and your verdict?
If not, what were the reasons for not going?
And did you see LOTR and how do you think it faired in comparison?

I would if I could. Unfortunately it's most likely I'm going to have to wait for it tocome out on rental.
Feel free to spoiler away though.

I went last night.
A LOTR experience it is not. But then LOTR was the first of it's sort on that sort of scale.
Think of the books. What is the difference in tone of those? Well that's the difference between the films - and there are a couple of up-to-date jokes thrown in quite inappropriately. How did they not end up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps, given that this one was 2.75 hours long and there are a couple more to come, NOTHING ended up on the cutting room floor.
And they were made in the wrong order of course. I think I understand why. It was a commercial decision. Yes?
I'd waited for YEARS to see LOTR. I was keen to see The Hobbit but frankly if I'd known what I know now, I would happily have waited a few more years. That said, When Hobbit 2 and 3 arrive, I'll be at the front of the queue.
It is a spectacle.
It is all a bit comic book.
If you have read the books and seen LOTR, why would you NOT go see this?
If you haven't read the books and HAVE seen LOTR, I'm not sure that it worth the effort.
If you have read the books and NOT seen LOTR (is there anyone?) either don't bother, or see The Hobbit and then watch LOTR straight through.
The point is, that this is a whole story and is best told from the beginning.

But it was worth my £7 to stare at Cate Blanchett as Galadriel again.
