Funny thing is life, depending on the way that you look at it. For many years in Britain, we were brought up with the statement that crime doesn’t pay; it probably was the same statement in other countries. But now! For a few years, the world has had a life reversal that defies logic, as in the bad seem to be rewarded in various ways and the good get punished in various ways. We get the excuses from professionals in all forms of employment why "they" have turned bad and then via liberal attitudes, we can’t punish them because it’s against their human rights. OK, I agree that the "spare the rod, spoil the child" scenario was over the top, but there is nothing in today’s societies that is a true deterrent to make a corrupt person think twice about their actions. It’s more like I got away with that, so I can do it again tomorrow or the next day and as it happens at the highest levels in our societies with impunity and so it passes down to the line to children in the streets. It’s more and more likely, that a giant asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs as we learn more about our planet and its place in the universe. But I reckon we don’t need another one to take us out, we’re going to do it all ourselves in one form or another and I ask that the last human on the planet turn the lights out please, as earth will be closed for business until further notice.

You can't even say that there is a lack of respect for authority - there doesn't seem to be any authority to answer to !

Perhaps that's the nub of the problem...
... The old authority that requires respect BECAUSE IT DOES has become, justifiably, old fashioned and people have stopped respecting it.
But there is no real new authority to replace it.
Crime has always paid unless you got caught, but society has a lot to answer for. A drug addict cant sell stolen goods if people wont buy them, the guy selling ripped DVDs in the pub wouldn't bother if he didn't have customers, the woman selling her body on a street corner couldn't if she had no customers. Kids would be less likely to turn to crime as easy money etc if they were brought up to be confident and aspirational etc etc...
I dont know what the answer is, but I can see that the problem is one of many and varied colours!

I dont think violence is an answer, it doesn't solve anything, simply causes pain and is a clumsy expression of anger/revenge or something. It's not very civilised, constructive or helpful, especially in the long term. You cant blame any court for that, violence tends to beget violence and the weak get weaker when faced with it.
Sorry, I'm not convinced that smacking, beating, flicking, scratching, biting, kicking or killing anyone really solves anything or helps anybody.
