Do you still have a copy of the poem?
That was a cute story, but it left me wanting to read the poem!
Do you have a copy?? If not, you could probably get one from the paper (if it still exists) or from your state library, which ought to keep copies of all the state's newspapers on file. Your last hope may rest with the state newspaper association!
I'd love to read it!
Please try to find a copy and post it here someday.

A copy?! Oh my! *blush*...
I have the original stuck in my scrapbook somewhere... now I just need to find the scrapbook among all the scrap I've collected over the years.
I'll do my best to find a copy and get it up here...
Thank you!
*blushes again*

I will look, I promise... but I have to warn you that it probably won't have much meaning... You have to understand.. it is written for a local community in which "The Square" is that section of pavement under the ONE traffic light (I'm serious! ) where three highways meet from four different directions and scatter off into totally different directions from which they came (also different from which would be their logical continuation). Population maybe 250?

Hi Anonymouse, I too am interested in the ode to that small little house. A family member of mine lived in such a small town in a place called California. There were three roads also (one called Venus Way) They too had that out house tradition.....untill sadly they ran out of outhouses. Hubcaps were also used for decoration.

The place I am speaking of was in the San Burnadino Mountains, That area in Crestline was called rim of the world ( No one there trusts anyone bellow 3,000 ft.)when you came up to the top of the hill it suprised you! There it stood (the out house) floating in a sea of hub caps... complete with cressent moon and quaint obscenity on the door.

*chuckles* ... Ours had obscenities -inside- on the walls.. and a few scrawled out on the sides, but the most prominent thing (and the one put there for the season) was the "Voting Booth" sign... more appropriate for Hicksville, USA.

I have a great appreciation of hicksville. I don't know if you have seen my page, but I celebrate a place called "Nothing" Arizona, population 4.
Small towns are cool!*
*Except the one I live in which is trying to be ( and fast becoming) a big town, that's not a real city, and that sucks!

Oooh yeah, I know what you mean. When we first came to this area, we could drive to the nearest 'major' town, and pass all of 4 houses once we hit the 'major' highway. Now you can't be anywhere along the trip without seeing at least 5. It's getting to crowded.

Actually I -have- been searching, believe it or not... I know there's gotta be a copy round here somewhere... I just haven't managed to find my scrapbook yet, cause I know there's one there. *sigh* *rummages around some more in the dust*
