This sounds like a wonderful drink. I can see that it should become an Edited Entry.

I know the editors don't like to start an entry with a heading. Your heading about it being a family recipe will probably be removed. If you want to preserve the family connection, you should put it into a footnote -

'This is an old family recipe passed down to the author by her grandmère.'

I think that the Entry should have a better introduction. It should tells us in the very first sentence what you are talking about. It is a wine, of some sort.

I think the section talking about the seasons would be better if it were in the present tense. The seasons happen every year. It sounds as if this only happened once.

A few Gallic turns of phrase have been translated.

Rather than 'butter and jam toast' it would be more usual to say 'jam and toast'.

'Along Throughout the year' - the Along is superfluous, try: 'Throughout the year'.

The final sentence before the recipe:
Many variants exist, as well as other fruit-preserved-in-alcohol drinks, like the Rumtopf, or the "cerises à l'eau de vie" (preserved cherries) celebrated by Alphonse Daudet
needs a full stop at the end.

I would seriously consider adding a further sentences along the lines of:

"The Rumtopf is very similar to Confiture de Vieux Garcons, as it involves preserving the fruits in layers as they become ripe throughout the summer and autumn. Rumtopfs are usually prepared in large earthenware crock pots and use rum rather than fruit liquor. The Germans also don't wait for spring, but start consuming their Rumtopf during the winter."

If the recipe is how your grandmère passed it on to you, you could avoid rephrasing it by putting the whole thing in as a BLOCKQUOTE, prefacing the quote with "The recipe was described to one researcher by her grandmère in the following way:"

What kind of 'fruit liquor' have you used? Are we talking cherry brandy, syrupy peach schnapps, calvados, actual wine or what? With all the added sugar I guess a syrupy drink is not needed.

This is the incomprehesibly ghastly side of an otherwise glorious site. Why do they do it?

My second Edited Entry was a piece I called "Rainbows End" and its message was just that -- every rainbow *does* have an end, and it is a single point, and I can tell you exactly where it is. In it I wrote "According to Kermit the Frog rainbows are 'just an illusion', but there is a lot more to a rainbow than there is to, say, a ghost. For one thing rainbows are equally visible to all, available for photography, and rationally discussable in a way that many 'subjective' experiences are not. For three things, that is."

The edited version A954759 is called "Rainbows End - Fact and Fiction" just to make it less elegant, and the (meaningful if not grammatical) sentence "For three things, that is" was simply ditched.
