Maybe a key part of being the person in the helmet should be the ability to run in a straight line, so if the others line you up properly you can get out of a room very quickly.

Maybe the reason was too terrible to say out loud.
Or maybe they couldn't be bothered to make one up. But there are more subtle ways you could piss them off, without going against the rules.

Engage the characters in conversation, get food out of your sack and start to eat it, spend ages looking at object on a table before deciding which to pick up, pcik up the spyglass thing and then put it down again immediately (which loses you points but wiil confuse the dungeon master).

'Release me, dungeoneer!'
'No!'
'Ride me to level 2!'
'I'll walk thanks.'
'So you're the only guy to finish the dungeon Treguard? Then why didn't you bloody pick up the cup, sword, shield and crown yourself??
How did you get out the dungeon anyway??'

How about not getting off the dragon, and threatening it with a spell or something if it doesn't take you to the very last level?
