Well, we all have to live with our convictions. He obviously didn't feel comfortable working for an employer who would broadcast things christians object to. Perhaps he'll find a new home on some biblical cable station and let the BBC get on with its job.

Fine, except that not all (and probably not most) Christians objected to this programme. It just seems like pathetic grandstanding - and I bet he has already been offered another job.

Surely after 2,000 years in existence, Christianity should be big enough and ugly enough to look after itself. It should be used to criticism and know how to respond to it. It doesn't need molly-coddling by the BBC agreeing to not show a programme that may offend the sensibilities of some of the religion's adherents.
Furthermore if the show has been running successfully in the West End for a couple of years, it demonstrates that those who are offended by the programme haven't being paying attention recently
BTW I've still got the video as offered in post 84. Be quick, or I may find a need to tape over it.

I don't doubt that it was a minority of christians (of which he was one) who objected. Still, I don't think he'll be much of a loss to the BBC.

Oh, and another point in passing - since the whole Springer/Jesus thing was probably ripped off South Park anyway, why aren't they targetting the source? Is it that there's no point protesting that certain people are offended by South Park, since it's pretty much the whole point?

That seems reasonable Clive. I'll ask az to post it on to you after she's finished with it.
Now I've got to work out which pile of tapes the programme is lurking in...

South Park wasn't on the BBC. People expect these things from Channel 4.

* Past Torture *
:: Two thousand years ago, crusifixion was a favoured form of torture and execution. [*1]
:: Christians were also sewn up in the skins of wild beast and dogs let loose on them.
:: The rack was used by the inquisition which began in 1232 when Emperor Frederick II isssued an edict against geratics.
:: The Spanish Inquisition[*3] of the 15th centrury was aimed origionall at Marranos, baptised Jews suspected of having returned to their old faith.
Above taken from THE TIMES January 12 2005 page 5 the story is about a study at Oxford in a 'United States funded'[*2] experiment to determine whether belief in God is effective in relieving pain.
[*1] - Bit of a given, but the text is there.
[*2] - *Not surprised face.*
[*3] *Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.*
Should we really be offened by this opera, more that tose that staff/run the curch in the name of Christians?

The best available seats on ticketmaster for Jerry Springer: the opera are only £51. Is anyone interested in attending a 'forum quorum' in London and going to see the show on stage before it ends its run and goes on tour at the end of January?

"only" £51?
If you ring the box office you'll probably get better seats for less money and you won't have to pay the admin fee.

I'd rather pay the cost of a video tape and postage to Spain, thanks.

the theatres tend not to change their pricing policy according to transient publicity spikes, but they might sell out. You can then only get tickets at silly prices through touts, or 'resellers'.

I was trying to get tickets for my parents to see the producers as a christmas present. Had spent several hours searching with *many* windows open trying to find decent (but not break the bank) seats for a saturday night performance. Think I was up to mid July and still hadn't found anything suitable. In the end I rang the box office who asked me whereabouts I wanted to sit, and what sort of price range and they then searched across all saturday nights to find something suitable.
Got great seats for a night in April, for the same price per seat as ticket master (except they hadn't come up in my search) but without the handling fee. They turned up in the post four days later
Have resolved to *always* ring the box office first from now on

It's on until Febuary 19th.
Also, 47,000 complained before the show was shown according to Ceefax 1 502.
UK population of Christians is millions, and 47,000 moaned *before* the event. Silly old hectors!
A motion has been tabled in the House of Commons for "mocking the portrayal of Jesus." No time to deal with the *kiddy fiddlers* in the Chruch though I see. Was Jesus mocked, I thought Jerry Springer was being mocked, and the *three nipple cousin *uc*kers* that expect some kind of redemption via TV, Jesus came of as quite a nice bloke, if not *a bit gay*.
