I have no idea if this news was news outisde the UK, but London also had a blackout on Thursday night, at 6:15pm for about 50 minutes. 1/4 million people were stuck in the Tube system at rush hour. People not stuck apparently spent a few minutes in the streets looking alarmed and then crowded into candle-lit pubs (because no matter what happens, British pubs will keep supplying us with booze).

The pub issue wasn't quite so dire there as it was in the states because Brits will insist on drinking their 
warm ...
