Hey hellbound, if you want to learn something obscure you could learn Latin! Latina maxima lingua est (Latin is the best language). You know you want to....

*ponders how to advertise the entire flipping thing whilst pushing latin and mandarin without being annoying*

Hellie, you speak Portuguese? smiley - wowI really want to learn Portuguese - with my mom being Brasilian it's just a shame I don't speak more than a few words. Is there a Portuguese thread?

I'm happy to advertise the Latin to my heart's content - but WARNING: it will get extremely annoying!

Stop advertising smiley - biggrin

I'm afraid we don't have a portugese thread because there aren't enough people who want to learn it. However I can try and find some if you really wish, and if helli will teach.

A thread can be set up easily and doesn't invole much work. If you can find someone who wants to teach you (and it appears you may have already) the thread can be set up by anyone. You just click 'discuss this page' or whatever that button's called... Everyone knows what i'm on about, right? Can you explain it to me?

We've been through this before. If you still don't understand then leave me a message on my PS and we'll go through it again in detail.

*jumps around waving arms*

PLEASE can you just give me a chance to find one or two other people who want to learn? I've got them on list and everything and then you can have a whole section. I dont want to clutter up the main page, which is why we've got the departments in the first place. Please please please just give me a chance!

I'm not sure how I'd go about teaching anything on this forum. Nor do I think I'm qualified. But if someone can direct me to a thread where a language is being taught I'd like to see how others are doing it and maybe I can figure something out. I've looked around and am still a bit confused as to how things work here.

Okay waltz along to the German Section. That's the most organised and active currently.
What happens is that within a section there is a speaking thread and a teaching thread, at least to start with. Within the teaching one you can either start from very basics (hello, good-bye) or further along depending on the students.

THEN as well as these two threads you can create other threads, as done in the German dept, where language games etc can be played. Whatever you feel will help others learn.

Sorry about the mess around though. I know it's slightly hard to understand. There was a big sort out while I was away and now it's a bit...complicated.

I see now. Those departments are some work to set up! I haven't actually spoken Portuguese in a while but I'd say I'm good enough to teach some basic stuff.

That's cool - so far my only method of studying was to find a Brasilian song I like (loads of those!), learn it by heart and then ask my mom to translate it. Fun, but not exactly the best way to learn a language... smiley - erm

I bet it's quite similar to the other Roman languages, so that should be ok for people who know french or italien, spanish or even latin. I've done a bit of every of those languages, so once you get started you can leave me a message and I'll have a look smiley - smiley

I'm going to launch it tomorrow so be prepared. I would do it tonight but I'm a bit shaken because I just set fire to my jumper....whilst it was on me.
