Having seen an leaflet left on the bar at the flat cap and muffler club, I am interested in finding out more information.
Are there any local attractions in Derby?
And what's the pub like?

The pub is a brilliant stone-floor-and-wooden-bench type place, with at least three of its own brewed beers and three others on at all times, usually more.

Attractions in Derby? Err, there's lots of muesums. And churches. Lots of pubs. We could lock the person present you dislike the most in the old gaol too- no, really, you can smiley - devil

Does it sell real smiley - cider and I take it the smiley - ale is good.

Now how do I get there and back...

I'm not sure about real cider- not all the time anyway. Does Strongbow though. The beer is excellent. The train station is 3mins walk from the pub. Where are you coming from?

The other end of the county! ie the bit of Derbyshire that's not quite Manchester - Glossop, which means a trip into Manchester for the train journey or one of us not drinking if driving is to be done.

Ah yes- I had a feeling you were in Derbyshire somewhere. You can get a train from Manchester and change at Sheffield. Direct trains between Manchester and Derby pretty much aren't. A quick look around suggests you'd have plenty of options to catch, and the last one back would be at 2145.

Well the drive is pretty straight forward (straight down the A6 and try not to be sidetracked by the delights on the way smiley - winkeye)

Well, yes. Getting anywhere in Derbyshire by road is fairly straightforward, if you know where you're going. But then someone gets to scowl into their orange juice smiley - winkeye

And so long as you don't decide on taking a detour down a particular road because it looks like it might be an interesting drive smiley - smiley
Scowling into the smiley - oj wouldn't want that now would we.

So, planning on visiting the capital of your county? smiley - winkeye

It would have to be discussed but it sounds like it could be interesting.

If you're coming down from Glossop-way, it's possible to go cross-country, but be careful as there are shedloads of speed cameras. The pub is pretty easy to find: follow the signs to the Railway Station, then look to see where the drunken anoraks congredate after a hard-day's number ticking.

I think I know the pub you mean, but I used to get taken to quite a few pubs in Derby when my sister lived there so I might be thinking of a different one. Sounds like the nearest one to the station, where I had to run in a panic and fetch help once when I'd somehow managed to ground a car on a raised bit in the station car park smiley - doh (Thinking back no I can't imagine how it happened either!)
Does do good beer though smiley - ok Which means it's worth asking if they've a keg of evil-looking real smiley - cider behind the bar. smiley - smiley
Could be on to something here. We'll have to check the diaries and see if we've anything else planned...

Err, no- the nearest pub to the station is opposite it, the Merry Widows, which was Wright's Vault. Oh, mind you, if you're coming out the end station car park, then the Brunswick would be the closest pub. The Brunny's fun at around five- half pissed trainspotters and folk musicans, half business suits waiting for their train smiley - laugh

Yeah, the Brunswick, that's the one I was thinking of.
So which pub did you mean to go to - or did you say that elsewhere and I missed it smiley - erm

The Brunswick, we did mention it, but only in that thread over there ==> There's a multimap link there as well.

Right: so who's going and not going? I need some idea how many we've got so far.

We've got 8-10 at present- numbers will go up, numbers will go down. It'll be impossible to tell who's actually going until about 2000 on the 15th of November, trust me smiley - winkeye
