You might be interested to know that Dagon features quite prominently in the opera 'Samson and Delilah' by Saint-Saƫns. There are scenes within the temple of Dagon in which his priests invoke the deity to reveal himself. And at the very end of the opera the priests and the Philistine people are all crying out 'Glory to Dagon' as Samson brings the temple crashing down about their ears.
One thing I found particularly interesting about Dagon is his relationship, via the Roman goddess Cybele, to the modern Christian priestly vestments. See in particular http://www.aloha.net/~mikesch/dagon.htm

I'm confused! In the title, you describe Dagon as the Chief God of the Philistines, but then you say he was worshiped by the Canaanites and that the Philistines invaded their land, but also the Israelites invaded. Are the Philistines and the Israelites the same or twoo different people? Where is Canaan?
Oh and by the way, I think it should be "Semitic" rather than "Semetic".

Agree with the comments above, which should be incorporated into the body of the entry.
PS: on-site my son is known as little . Maybe I should rename him Dagon?

I'm not one to say I'm right if I discover I'm wrong and I hope I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong.

bah, ok i will. i suspect he only makes a toekn appearance in those texts. i have read commentaries with chapters on him. i believe he is Baal's father in some cultures.

I think you should change the title to what the first header says and get rid of the first header - that would make things clearer and a bit tidier.
