Gazongola-Small Time Whovian and Big Time Nutter (and now old enough to drink, but politics is still a less favourable subject)

I would like to volunteer to be a gem polisher as I see myself as meticulous and helpful. I also have knowledge oF GuideML.smiley - biggrin

Mrs Zen

Gazongola, I am very sorry. I have just realised that none of the UG Editors are subscribed to this page. (There are a lot of UnderGuide pages around, and we missed this one. *Hangs head in shame*)

I'll point Jodan in the direction of this conversation - he is the one with the Keys to the Kingdom.

Once again, very very smiley - sorry for missing this conversation.

Hello Gazongola. I'm not sure what I was doing in January, but I seem to have missed your post smiley - doh

Ok. So you want to be a Gem polisher? Well, here are some useful pages-

A1092566 - What do the Gem Polishers Do? Also the linked pages at the top of the page are useful.
A1103626 - UG Processes (a bit out of date, but relevant)
<./>UnderGuide</.> - An overview
A1150147 - A Short History of the UnderGuide (useful for recognizing cryptic messages of old-timers on the UG group)

The job of a polisher, simply put, is to make sure the entries are presentable for the Front Page. It's not as intensive a dusting as the sub-editors give Edited Guide entries. In fact, there are only a few guidelines to make sure you follow-
1- It must have the UG Logo linked the the UnderGuide page. The code for this is in one of those pages I gave you, I believe.
2- It must credit the author as researcher and you must tick the not-for-review box before it is ready.
3- You should add - (UG) to the end of the entry's title so that it is searchable.
4- Proper grammar and spelling. Spelling doesn't have to be British, it should simply be the spelling that the author uses. Same with grammar... there are some different grammar rules for America and Britain, so a British polisher shouldn't British-ize American grammar and vice versa But don't worry too much about this.
5- Don't take things too seriously.
6- Be happpy.

When you're familiar and comfortable with the way the UG operates, let me know and I'll get you onto the UG Yahoo Group. Please ask questions about anything you aren't sure about though and I'm sure I can help smiley - ok
