Well, I think that was quite good, don't you? Please tell me what you think of it. I'll be very pleased. As pleased as a pussycat. Not an angry pussycat, though, a happy one with a nice ball of wool, and...

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Hello Nigel, and welcome to Peer Review.

It looks as if you haven't been a Researcher for too long so perhaps you aren't yet aware of many of the processes, rules, and conventions of h2g2.

Peer Review is a forum for entries which Researchers have written with the intention of getting them into the edited section of h2g2. The way it works here is that if an entry covering a subject already exists in the Edited Guide (EG), then there can't be another, and there is an edited entry about The King here A702839

As soon as you create an entry it becomes part of The Guide. Anyone who searches on the subject of your entry will find it in the search results, as long as they don't eliminate unedited Guide entries from their search.

Submitting an entry to Peer Review is the first step in (hopefully) getting it into the edited section of The Guide. Having an entry edited gives it a little more weight in terms of its usefulness because in order to make into the EG it will have to follow the h2g2 guidelines Writing-Guidelines, which are geared towards encouraging good quality entries, and it will have been peer-reviewed here by PR regulars who will have made suggestions about its content - useful additions to the content, superfluous stuff which could be removed, worthwhile links, etc. A Sub-editor will have polished it up and put it into the House Style (GuideML) if necessary, which usually makes an untidy-looking entry much easier to read, and finally, the h2g2 Editors will have looked it over and given it the smiley - ok, all of which should make it an easy-to-read, informative entry.

If you want to write more entries, the Advanced Search link which you can find on almost every h2g2 page will help you to find whether or not there is an entry in the EG which covers the subject you want to write about. On the search page you'll find a section called 'Search the Guide' with three options next to the search field - 'Edited Entries', 'Recommended Guide Entries', and 'Guide Entries'. Make sure that the first two options are checked and the third is unchecked, enter your subject in the field, and hit 'Search the Guide'. You'll either get a list of entries which have some relevance to your subject, or a message telling you that there are no entries with any reference to it.

Your entry as it currently stands doesn't meet one or more of the guidelines necessary for entries submitted to this forum for review and hopefully for editing. You can create new entries any time you please, and about any subject you please (as long as it doesn't contravene the <./>HouseRules</.&gtsmiley - winkeye, but not all of them have to be peer-reviewed - only the ones you want to be edited (see above). To get a feel for what an edited entry should look like, check out the <./>FrontPage</.> each day - five new edited entries are listed there every working day.

As you're new to h2g2 why not spend some time getting to know your way around the place, meeting some other Researchers, finding parts of the site which take your interest, getting a feel for how h2g2 operates? smiley - smiley

In addition to the Edited Guide, h2g2 has some other guides being built on it. This could make a good contribution to the spaced out guide, see U218740.

Firstly, welcome to Researcher 232647. I think the entry is an interesting, well written and enthusiastic one, but I don't think this is really suitable for peer review, as peer review is meant for edited guide, which are supposed to be more factual, whereas this is more of an opinion piece.

This is more suitable for the Alternative Writing Workshop(AWW), which is meant not only for more opinionated entries, but also poetry, stories, and other things that don't fit the guidelines for the edited guide. The guidelines are here: A53209 and the alternative writing workshop is here: Writing-Alternative

Also, there is <./>thePost</.> which is something like a newspaper, that accepts opinion pieces, among other things. You could submit the entry to that if you wanted.

Finally, I think it would be good for you to change your nickname from Researcher 232647 to something more personal. To do that, you click on the preferences button, then change your name in the box, and click submit details.
