"tonsil - Ransome and Lofting are somewhat earlier than 74 - remember I am old! Ransome wrote the 'Swallows and Amazons' series - a bit like the Famous 5 but on water - and Hugh Lofting wrote the 'Doctor Dolittle' books."
Ah!
My reading was never very structured and I had ****-all in the way of guidance.
I may get around to those this year.
I know the child read a lot of Lofting's stuff a while back, including the other books. She found an edition with his own drawings in it.
"Swallows and Amazons" I've never heard of. Nor the Famous 5, for that matter.
