This is great, Gnomon. I always wondered how the bouzouki got into Irish music. Good stuff!

Am I the only one who thinks of Monty Python's "Cheese Shop" sketch when anyone mentions the Bouzouki (which doesn't happen very often)?
And if so, should I be worried?

I worked at getting the Cheese Shop sketch into the entry for a long time, but unfortunately, the spoken lines which refer to the bouzouki players are not that memorable. It is the incessant playing and dancing in the background that I remember so well. But I didn't think the public would remember the phrase 'Shut that Bouzouki Player Up!' so I removed it.

Actually I think it was "Shut that bl00dy bazouki" - You could start with "I'm sorry sir I thought you were complaining about the bazouki player."
Which shows that there are too many of us sad Pythonites about.

I know this is a bit late, but 'shut that bloody bouzouki up' only appears in the record version of the sketch. In the original TV version, it's 'shut that bloody dancing up' 
You could always include:
"Oh, I thought you were complaining about the bouzouki"
"Heaven forbid! I am one who delights in all manifestations of the Terpsichorean muse."
"Sorry?"
"Oooh, I like a nice tune. You're forced to..."
Or not, as the case may be 
(sad, sad, sad...)
