This is the part where we're supposed to offer advice and criticism. I can't think of any.
Well Done!

Its a winner Bels
Do you think it worth mentioning that the Anglicization of many immigrant names took place at Ellis Island ? When immigration officers couldn't understand the name they wrote an English version.
For example Thingy Wallace - the guy who wrote the book of lists - found that his family name had been Walchenski, but an immigration officer had changed it to Wallace when his grandfather entered the country. (Obviously I'm working from memory here.)

Fascinating entry, Bels - well done. It's amazing to think that immigration into the USA was once so strongly encouraged by the American authorities, when these days they make it so difficult!
The only thing I can think of that might improve the entry is some links to relevant edited entries, like the ones on New York (A199389), Germany (A297092) and Norway (A803422). The editors will add those if you don't, but you could save them the job!

Thanks, Ormy. I did allude to the anti-immigration legislation in the 1870s and also in the 1920s. Human nature being what it is, there was bound to be a backlash with all those millions of people streaming through. And of course what happened to the non-Europeans, especially the Chinese, is another story and another entry.
Regarding the links, I find that some subs like to link 'big' keywords like Norway, while others like to find links for words like 'steamship' or 'doctor' or something, so I'll leave it for now and with a bit of luck, if it gets to the subbing stage, I'll be able to discuss it then. Or not, of course, as the case may be

Fine article! I went there last year: they have a huge map which shows the number of residents in each state who claim ancestry of certain ethnic types. I'm Welsh, so I keyed in the code, and saw Pennsylvania (no surprise there) and California come up as the two most Welsh states. The latter is more surprising: I suppose that lot of miners during the Gold Rush must have been Welsh. If you want to see it go into overload, key in the code for Ireland.
