I was one of the people who went to Australia on assisted passage in October 1972 and went there by ship to Sydney.
The ship was the Achille Lauro this was the first time I had heard of the ship, and had interest in it until it sank in the Indian Ocean in November 1994.
I am now doing a project and am looking for some information about the Achille Lauro pre 1972.
I found the information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achille-lauro but some of the info was incorrect, as when the ship was hijacked the date was said to be October 7, 1985.
I know the date when the news came on the radio, as I was shipping out my Norton Motorcycle out to Australia again by container ship to do a second round trip.
The date was December 4 1981 when the news came though, although I think the hijacking had been going on for quite a few hours before that.
I still have more things to say about the Achille Lauro but feel this is important to get the dates corrected. I am sure this information can be backed up by checking archives in newspapers.

Traveller in Time ready to correct the Wiki mistake
"Wiki is known to be written by the public, as well as our entries are. One major difference is our entires are examined by many people before _and_ after they become Edited.
Besides it says Entry not found try < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achille_Lauro >
< http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/october/7/newsid_2518000/2518697.stm > I have not done a very intensive search, but I do thrust the BBC news to be a little more relyable then 'just' a Wiki entry .
No worries, there was an 'Executive Order 123333' by the 'homeland security' (United States) mentioning hijacks . Well that was the best direct hit I found.
And some plane Hijacks in 1981. "
