h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The phrases 'with the benefit of hindsight', 'if only we had the power of hindsight' etc. have always confused me. Surely we all have the benefit / power of hindsight in that we can look back at something and think about how it went or what we could have done differently. What we are lacking is the power of foresight enabling us to see the full consequences of our actions before we carry them out and to make decisions accordingly.

There are so many things that I could look back on and regret if I let myself do it but then if I had the chance would I really change anything? If I am happy where I am now then surely all those wrong decisions only directed me through life in a way that I am glad of. Of course, if someone is not happy where they are the same wouldn't apply.

Would you change the past if you had the chance?

Oh! yes Fran2c! I would, it would give me the chance not to make the same mistakes again. I would probably do the same things, but change the way I did them, so I would not cause the hurt that I did at the time
