Not to be unkind, but surely any entry of this type must have a mention of RUR (Rossums Universal Robots), which is where the term 'Robot' was first used in it's modern sense?

Agreed. Although they may have been forgotten about after many decades of Robots stomping across our screens, they're importance cannot be ignored. Neither can Boxy the Muffit from Battlestar Galactica.

Yes, well, Sky are showing the 'movie' this week sometime. My flatmate keeps threatening to make us watch it...smiley - yikessmiley - run

And what about poor old Robbie? Two movies and a tv series surely make him once of the most recognised robots in the world...

Yes, and the b*ggers in the good old US of A are planning to bring back Battlestar Galactica. It wasn't wanted the first time round!
AAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

Save science fiction; bring the good Doctor back.

Hmm, I must admit to mixed feelings about the good Dr. I watched Resurrection of the Daleks today, and really enjoyed it, but I don't think it's something that can be repeated...

We seem to be a bit off topic though...smiley - yikes

I think Metal Mickey should be honoured in this entry.

Surly Marvin should be here. O, sorry - that's Science _fact_!

Post 15

Marvin is in androids, because he was an android prorer in the book (at least he was humanoid and capable of complex manual dexterity) but in the TV series he was a lumbering robot (due to budgets probably)

Well this has been recommended by a Scout, but seeing as conversation's been spread right across this whole series of entries, I just thought I'd better check if you're happy for this to go on to the next stage of the Editorial process?

Let me know if you're done or if you need more time...

i have a couple of comments about the K9 section:

1. i think the novel bit should be removed. this s because i am eprsonaly against novels of TV series being used to show storylines or character personalities sincce they are not accurate to the presentation made in TV and are by different writers etc, although that i only my opinion.

2. change the following:

'K9 Mark 3 made his first appearance in a special called "K9 and Company"'

to:

'K9 Mark 3 made his first and only appearance in the pilot of the Doctor Who spin-off series "K9 and Company". The series was not continued.'

this is for accuracy as K9 and Company wasn't a special story but a spin-off series.

Thanks, I've made the changes but I think I should leave the bit about the novel in because it's the only know (to me) example of how K9 thinks.

Actually, it *was* just a special. Though its producer hoped it might go on to series - hence the 'episode' title, it was never positioned as such within the BBC and never developed beyond this one-off episode. 'Special' is therefore more accurate than 'series'.

I think this entry's good to go, y'know. A Scout agrees and has hrecommended it for the Edited Guide. Let me know when you're done smiley - smiley

from what i understand it was in fact the pilo of a new seies they hoped to continue. they do this sort of thing all the time in america - one of pilots which they hope networks will pick up and pay for a whole season.

the episode itself shows it was the pilo of a series as it not only contains a series title but an episode title as well, and a one of special wouldn't contain an episoe title.
