>>Also ferrets can be trained to walk on a harness and leash to help with the inquisitive and explorative nature, allowing them to get out and go for a walk etc. OK so you would get laughed at in the park but apparently it is quite recommended by ferret fanciers!
I've done this. I enjoyed it, though he almost got away once, and got away but didn't run once. I think the harnesses are a bit uncomfortable for the ferret though. He'd hide in one of the many holes in my house whenever I got it.
I miss him

Ferrets do make fantastic pets although i have a feeling that they 'must' like elephants do and turn crazy for a while.
(take note! I posted in PR not scared of you lot )
What was your ferrets name?
We used to get a few stray ones at work - i think they just wandered off - exploring. They all ended up being called Bob though

Crazy? Yes I suppose some times. Occasionally, he got his tail caught in something and turned crazy. That noise will scare you.
Wiley. Named for the coyote in Warner brothers cartoons. Almost named Umbrella.

Just to keep on thread (almost! I will have a look for something on ferrets and musting from some of my vet [pass-word needed] websites. If i dont find anything assume that i couldnt and i made it up or i forgot)

This is a great entry, Odo! Not knowing anything about ferrets, I can't comment on the content, but I can point out a few spelling, punctuation and grammar points:
provides and easy meal --> provides an easy meal
suck as cookers --> such as cookers
wild, the European --> wild. The European
to it's home --> to its home
house hold --> household
small holed --> small-holed
large cage, this --> large cage; this
ferret proof --> ferret-proof
excited of scared --> excited or scared
a range "dook" or "cluck" like sounds --> strange "dook" or "cluck" sounds

all.
Harness walking a ferret in public must get you lots of attention. I tried a harness on the ferret who adopted me recently. As fast a I got it on he'd wriggle out of it. In the end I gave and let him play daft games on the patio without it on. He didn't seem very interested about making a bid for freedom, he was more interested in playing daft games with a smelly bit of bark he found. I kept a very close whatch on him whilst he was out.

Umbrella? Don't ask...
Yes, plenty of attention. I'm glad I live in the suburbs, or else I'd get too much attention...
stirring up old memories...

Jordan
I acquired an albino ferret, and had him as a house guest for four weeks. I was out with friends in a local pub when he was spotted wandering around in the pubs back garden. There were a couple outside drinking, the female saw him ambling across towards her, jumped up on the bench and started screaming. At this point the chap with her started attempting to kick the ferret back across the lawn.
We decided it was time to intervene, borrowed a crisp box from behind the bar and went out to see if the critter was approachable/catch able. At this point he wondered across, scrambled into the box, poked his head out and seemed to say…. “ Well, what happens now?”
Having an empty hutch at home, and knowing a bit about the creatures I volunteered to hang onto him for a few days whilst we tried to find his owner.
I ended up having him for four weeks. A friendly and hyper-active little creature, who once he’d been de-ticked spent a fair amount of time traveling around the house and garden with me.
I couldn’t keep him though, and I eventually found him a new home. He was handed over last Wednesday, but because he was such a cheeky + friendly chap I’m missing him a bit.
Ok, sorry about all that.
I’ll add in something about their ability to be harness trained.

Brilliant, another link me-thinks. But please note that although the ferret caused chaos and terror it didn’t actually do any damage to anyone, or anything come to that, except for a few sandwiches. See, they don’t attack humans on sight!

No, they just panic when people scream and flap at them, which is quite reasonable really, I mean, how would you like great big hairless giants bellowing at you?

Yeah. The BBC breakfast people were selling it as killer ferret. But it's blatantly just confused and hungry ferret.

Hello
Just popping by to say I've recommended this
on a related note I once went to a country fair and they had a game there called Ferret roulette, where there was a network of pipes with several numbered exits, you placed your bet on a number, they put the ferret in the pipes and the first numbered exit it came out of was the winning number.
Just thought I'd mention it
