PS - for those who can't get enough of our furry friends, there is a ferret-biting-bottom story on the "why destroy the badger?" thread on ask H2G2. Comes recommended!

Well at least that would explain why it took me four hours to get home, I was obviously using the wrong map.

Peer Review: A1049889 - Ferrets

I haven't read the whole thing yet - it looks pretty good, only ferrets weren't domesticated in Egypt. For one thing, they aren't heat resistant, so to speak - ferrets would perish in the Egyptian heat . And the ferret looking things on the heiroglyphic artwork are probably mongooses.
Ferrets are descendants of polecats, or they most probably are anyway - so they would be native to Europe, not Africa.
