A Conversation for Talking Point: Games - Traditional Versus Virtual

Sierra Indigo - now Cheesecakethulhu flavoured

Simple answer, both.

Long answer -

I'm a fan of electronic (computer and console) games for different reasons. Some are fun and silly, with bright colours and chirpy sounds. Others are scary, and perfect for playing late at night with a friend and a few drinks (a la Silent Hill). Some are strategic, some are problem-solving, some are just out-and-out violent. Plus, when's the last time you could make a board-game opponent explode into bloody, flaming pieces? smiley - winkeye

But I also like board games. It's fun to sit around with a group of people, especially if you play things like House Rule Trivial Pursuit, where each wrong answer is met with a penalty of a vodka shot. And you can play a board game if the power's out or the 'net's not working or the tv's on the fritz. And monopoly pieces make great missiles for slumber-party warfare.

They both have their pros, and their cons. But I do agree that children today just aren't getting the chance to know how it feels to play the board games, and that's sad. Some of the best times I've had have been around the monopoly or trivial pursuit board, throwing game tokens at other players smiley - winkeye

Wowbadger the spelling mistake

Well said !

All too often the electronic game leaves the other party(ies) just looking on. I know from experience that the likes of C&C or Quake are most definitely not spectator sport......

Pick the correct game for the situation but given the drinks involved it will always end up in a fight.
